Even with a hectic lifestyle, we should never lose sight of the importance of our fertility. Here we take a look at five habits that could potentially impact your fertility. From diet to exercise.

Hypocaloric diet

An inadequate basic supply of food is counterproductive to ovulation. Inadequate calorie intake and relatively low body weight can lead to inadequate cholesterol and fat reserves, which are necessary for the production of fertility hormones such as progesterone.

Coffee before a meal

Drinking coffee on an empty stomach increases cellular consumption of glucose and then leads to an increase in epinephrine. Excessive adrenaline output can lead to exhaustion, slowed metabolism, and depletion of glycogen stores. You need sufficient nutrient reserves to support the metabolic boost that coffee can give.

Avoid carbohydrates

Sugar has negative effects when used incorrectly and in excess. However, sugar can also have a positive effect on health if used correctly. Sugar, or glucose, is one of the main sources of energy for our body. When sugar, or complex carbohydrates, are used, it lowers cortisol and adrenaline levels, free fatty acids, improves thyroid function, promotes the production of pregnenolone and progesterone (protective hormones), supplies the liver, reduces endotoxin levels and protects against estrogen + nitric oxide + serotonin + histamine + lactic acid/lactate.

Insufficient amount of protein

Sufficient high-quality, bioavailable protein is crucial for thyroid and liver health. The liver needs enough protein (at least 100 grams ideally) to function optimally. The liver does the majority of the activation of thyroid hormones. If you have low thyroid and/or low progesterone levels, you should incorporate more protein into your diet to support both.

Excessive exercise

When we exercise excessively, we expose the body to severe stress. Under prolonged stress and over time, the hypothalamus stops telling the ovaries to produce adequate amounts of progesterone, DHEA, and estrogen, which are necessary for menstruation and ovulation. These are the beginnings of potential infertility and can have long-term health consequences.

Well, what to do?

This information is a good clue to have a positive effect on your own fertility. Fulfilling the desire to have children usually requires further and more individual measures. Men's health and fertility should also not be ignored.
